“This will probably be the first Vivo handset with the hole-punch design”
A week ago, a new Vivo handset with an alleged 5,000mAh battery broke on to the rumour mill. And no, we’re not talking about the Vivo Y17 as that is already official in India. It’s about the Vivo Z5X which is expected to be a successor of the Vivo Z3X which is also a relatively new handset. The Vivo Z5X, at that point of time, was believed to be Vivo’s first smartphone with a hole-punch display. Now, Vivo has announced today that the handset will launch on May 24th.
Previously, a number of leaked images leaked, strongly hinting the hole-punch design. However, Vivo’s Product Manager Wu Fang revealed the handset’s design while teasing the battery life on social media. From that post, it is understood that the Vivo Z5X can last through 14 hours of gameplay during a 2 day period which is pretty impressive. It is now also known through the same post that the Vivo Z3X successor has a 6.53-inch display and the overall thickness of the chassis is 8mm.
Most of the other information regarding the handset is under wraps but we can make some good guesses looking at the Vivo Z3X. And since it has a Snapdragon 660 SoC, we expect some sort of upgrade – possibly a Snapdragon 675 chip on the Z5X. Also, the handset could continue with the dual camera setup found on other Z series devices. This will be a mid-range offering at best from Vivo as the Vivo Z3X costs CNY 1,198, which means around $173.
