Volvo XC40 Recharge EV launch

The Volvo XC40 Recharge will become the first luxury EV to be assembled in India. Volvo has prepped its Hosakote plant near Bengaluru in Karnataka to assemble the electric SUV for the Indian market.

On the account, Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Cars India, commented, “Volvo is known for harnessing the power of technology in providing safer and hi-tech cars. Leveraging the capabilities of the metaverse is just another example of Volvo Car using the latest technology from a vantage point in marketing. We are confident that the XC40 Recharge with its over 400km per charge range will be widely accepted by customers who are looking for an EV with all the safety and luxury features that Volvo Cars are synonymous with.”

Volvo XC40 Recharge expected price, specifications

The Volvo XC40 Recharge is based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, much like its ICE-based brother. The vehicle also looks largely the same except for some highlights to differentiate its EV credentials, such as a blanked grille and a different set of alloys.

The vehicle gets a dual-motor setup that jointly develops 402.30bhp of peak power and 660Nm of peak torque. The dual-motor setup also enables an AWD drive setup. The XC40 Recharge is capable of sprinting from 0-100kmph in just 4.9 seconds and tops out at 180kmph.

The motors are connected to a 78kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The Volvo XC40 Recharge claims to deliver a range of 418km. The XC40 Recharge also supports 150kW fast charging that can juice up the battery from 0 to 80 per cent in just 40 minutes.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge is expected to be priced around Rs 74 lakh (ex-showroom). The vehicle, when launched, will compete with the likes of the Kia EV6, BMW i4 sedan, and the upcoming Hyundai IONIQ 5.
