WhatsApp beta for Android removes the ability to save profile photos; iOS beta gets sticker preview from notifications

“WhatsApp usually provides the option to either save the profile picture of a contact in the gallery or share it on social media sites”

WhatsApp is removing the ability to save profile pictures of contacts in the latest Android (V2.19.143) and WhatsApp Business for iOS (V2.19.60.5) beta updates, as spotted first by noted WhatsApp tracker WaBetaInfo. The change is already enabled and will be applicable once the beta updates are installed. WhatsApp usually provides the option to either save the profile picture of a contact in the gallery or share it on social media sites but post the latest beta update, it will no longer be available. However, users can still save group icons as usual.

Separately, WhatsApp for iOS is also receiving a beta update with version number V2.19.129. This brings support for previewing stickers directly in the Notification Centre by long-pressing a notification. Users can now preview the stickers in full size instantly from the notifications, which is extremely convenient. The feature was made available to Android Beta app a week ago and is enabled by default. These latest updates have already started rolling out and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

WhatsApp recently added new emoji layout and 155 redesigned emojis for Android beta. While some emojis are fully redesigned, others have received small design tweaks. It also included more references to the dark mode, which is in the works for quite a long time. The feature might be renamed to ‘Night Mode,’ when released, but the functionality might remain the same. Furthermore, Night Mode is already compatible with Status and Calls sections. Though the action buttons retain the same green colour, they should turn White when the Night Mode finally becomes available.
