WhatsApp working on a calling shortcut feature

WhatsApp is working on a calling shortcut feature as was seen in a recent beta rollout of the app. The WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.3.15 update from the Play Store shows a new calling shortcut feature that could come to a future iteration of the app. The new feature will allow users to create a calling shortcut for a specific contact that will automatically be added to the home screen.

The new feature will allow users to reduce the time to call a contact via WhatsApp by introducing a direct shortcut to a favourable home screen location. Currently, the same can be done by opening the WhatsApp app on a device and heading to the contact’s chat. This feature could particularly come in handy for frequent contacts, etc.

The feature is however currently in its developmental stage and will at first be rolled out to beta testers to even out bugs and glitches in the new addition. The feature will then make its way to a stable update to the instant messaging app.
