WhatsApp brings profile pictures in iOS notifications on iPhone

WhatsApp is rolling out the new system notification for iOS showing the user sender's profile picture instead of the app icon.

  • Whatsapp is rolling out a new system notification for iOS.
  • The new notification for chat shows the sender’s image instead of the app icon.
  • The new feature is only available for iOS 15.

Last year, WhatsApp introduced a bunch of new features, including UPI paymentslinked devices, and the much-awaited chat transfer between iOS and Android devices. Further, the instant messaging giant has been working on redefining UI for call screen, voice message preview, and a community feature much like Discord. Now, WhatsApp is reportedly bringing some changes to the app notifications on iPhone. WhatsApp for iOS users will now see profile pictures of senders on their iPhone notification screen.

First spotted by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is changing how the chat notifications look on iPhone. Instead of showing the app icon, the notifications will display the sender’s profile picture in the Notification Center whenever the user receives a message. This new feature uses an API present in iOS 15, meaning the upcoming notification change will be limited to the iPhones running iOS 15. As per the publication, this will be one of the first features WhatsApp will be bringing out in 2022.

The feature is currently being tested in the beta version of Whatsapp for iOS on iOS 15. It might take a while before WhatsApp releases this feature to the stable build. So, we’d suggest you wait a while if you don’t see the profile photo of senders on your iPhone. Also, some beta testers might experience some bugs since the feature is in the beta phase.

Last month, WhatsApp introduced some privacy changes preventing strangers from viewing one’s “Last Seen” status. This new change to WhatsApp comes as a privacy and security update to the instant messaging service, restricting people you don’t know from seeing your “Last Seen” status or whether you are online or not. WhatsApp is also working on including an option to let you hide your last seen from some of the specific contacts your “Last seen” instead of hiding it or allowing it for everyone. The feature is reported to be available to select beta users.
