Meta-owned WhatsApp stops supporting older Android and iOS models every once in a while. According to a report, the popular messaging service will no longer function on more than 49 smartphones, including two iPhones. Due to the outdated software on these smartphones, WhatsApp will no longer be able to maintain the app’s functionality as it currently stands from December 31st, 2022.

WhatsApp to no longer work on iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c

According to reports, the messaging service will no longer work on iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c, but this is not surprising given that WhatsApp already stopped supporting iOS 10 and iOS 11 back in October. Released in 2012 with iOS 6, the iPhone 5 has received updates up until 2019 with iOS 10.3.4. The 2013-released iPhone 5c, which came with iOS 7, was also updated until 2019 with iOS 10.3.4.

The report also highlighted WhatsApp would no longer work on older Android smartphones, which include 20 LG smartphones, seven Samsung smartphones, six Huawei smartphones, and three Sony smartphones, among others.
