Xiaomi achieves annual target of 100 million smartphone shipments with two months to spare

Xiaomi‘s founder and CEO, Lei Jun took to Weibo last night to announce that the company has already achieved its target number of shipments for the year 2018. The brand then went on to announce the same from its global Twitter handle. Notably, the brand had set a target of shipping 100 million smartphones earlier this year and has managed to achieve the feat with two months still remaining for the year to end.

Xiaomi India a leading contributor to the global sales

Xiaomi has time and again emphasised that the Indian smartphone market is one of the most important markets for the brand. This is illustrated by the fact that the brand has been the leading brand in Indian market for four consecutive quarters now. The handset maker has launched a flurry of smartphones in the country this year starting with Redmi Note 5 Pro (review) / Redmi Note 5, and the latest launches being the Redmi 6, 6A (first impressions) and 6 Pro (review). Xiaomi also launched its much ambitious POCO F1 smartphone, which witnessed a strong sale in the country. Riding on the back of these launches, the brand went on to sell over 10 million smartphones in second quarter of 2018, which is a record in itself. 

According to a latest Counterpoint report, Xiaomi claimed a total market share of 27 percent in Q3 2018, which is a jump from from 22 percent share during the same period last year.

Apart from Asian countries and its home market, the brand has been aggressively expanding in European countries as well. The company has been launching smartphones and expanding its offline/online presence in these countries this year. And the phonemaker is yet to bring smartphones like Mi Max 3, Mi 8 Pro, Mi 8 Lite and Mi Mix 3 to the European markets. So, it’s being speculated that the brand will exceed 100 million in shipments by the time November comes.

Based on these numbers, there are speculations that the company will touch the milestone of 120 millions units or more by the end of this year. We will bring you more developments as and when they emerge, so stay tuned.
