The Xiaomi 16 series is reportedly in development. So far, we have learnt that the standard model will get a periscope camera and a bigger battery compared to its predecessor. Now a Chinese tipster, Smart Pikachu, shares new details of the Xiaomi 16, including its exact battery capacity, charging speed, processor, and also the launch timeline. It is said to rock a small screen just like its predecessors, making it suitable for those who prefer compact phones.
Xiaomi 16 launch timeline, key specs leaked
- As per tipster Smart Pikachu on Weibo (via), Xiaomi 16 is reportedly being tested with a 6,800mAh battery.
- This would be quite an upgrade from the 5,400mAh unit that powers the Xiaomi 15.
- The upcoming offering is said to feature a 100W fast charging compared to 90W on the previous model.
- The device will continue to maintain its compact form factor.
- The tipster also adds that the Xiaomi 16 will be unveiled in September which is quite earlier than the previous generation flagships that debuted in October.
- The global launch should happen at a later date similar to previous models.
- This could be because of the early announcement of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 as previously reported.
- The Xiaomi 16 is claimed to be the first phone with the new flagship processor.
The same tipster had previously revealed that the device could get a larger screen ranging between 6.36 to 6.73-inches. The periscope camera remains unclear but to recall, the Xiaomi 15 has a 3x telephoto lens whereas the pro model features a periscope sensor with 5x optical zoom.
What’s new compared to Xiaomi 15
If the leaked specs are anything to go by, the Xiaomi 16 could bring several upgrades to the table compared to the Xiaomi 15.
- Processor upgrade: The Xiaomi 16 could be one of the first phones to boast the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship chipset, which may bring improved performance over the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
- Battery upgrade: With a 6,800mAh battery, Xiaomi 16’s 6,800mAh will be a significant improvement over Xiaomi 15’s 5,240mAh (India) unit.
- Charging speed upgrade: The Xiaomi 16’s rumoured 100W charging support will be a slight improvement over Xiaomi 15’s 90W fast charging.
- Change in zoom lens: Although unspecified, the Xiaomi 16 could get a periscope lens which may allow for capturing detailed images at higher zoom levels compared to the 3x telephoto lens present on the Xiaomi 15.
