Xiaomi is preparing to unveil its next-generation foldable, the Xiaomi 18 Fold, in China on September 7th. The company also showcased the upcoming device at IFA 2026, where we got a closer look at its new form factor and some of the hardware upgrades Xiaomi is bringing to its foldable lineup. This design is also similar to the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold8 and the upcoming iPhone Ultra. Ahead of the official launch, Xiaomi has revealed key details of the 18 Fold.
Xiaomi 18 Fold specifications
One of the biggest changes is the 7.58-inch inner display, which adopts a 2:1 aspect ratio designed to resemble standard paper. The 2:1 aspect ratio is a notable departure from the taller, narrower screens found on standard foldables, potentially offering a more traditional tablet-like experience. The outer cover screen measures 5.38 inches, while the inner panel reaches up to 4,000 nits of brightness and features an AR film for reduced reflections and improved clarity.
The display also uses double-layer UTG ultra-thin glass, while its touch layer incorporates a flexible organic material designed to improve impact resistance. With this form factor, the Xiaomi 18 Fold gives the compact feeling when folded and the large tablet-like experience when unfolded.
Xiaomi is using its new-generation Dragon Bone Hinge, featuring a three-level linkage structure for full-fit protection. The foldable gets a 7-series aluminium alloy frame with Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0 on both the front and rear.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold is also confirmed to feature a 200MP primary camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens. The horizontal camera strip also houses a third sensor, an LED flash, and Leica branding. Under the hood, the foldable will be powered by Xiaomi’s Xring O3, a 3nm deca-core chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM. It will also be among the first smartphones to use CXMT’s new LPDDR6 memory. The device is expected to run HyperOS 4 based on Android 17.
Despite its slim foldable form factor, Xiaomi has fitted a 6,000mAh Jinshajiang battery, with 67W wired and 50W wireless charging.
It’s clear that Xiaomi is launching a powerful foldable with this new form factor, which seems to be the latest trend for upcoming foldables. Its custom chip promises impressive raw performance, while the battery is among the largest on a foldable. All this could make the Xiaomi 18 Fold worth buying if you’re interested in this form factor and still want flagship hardware.
