Xiaomi introduced HyperOS as its new operating system last year. This succeeded MIUI as the default OS in new Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO phones. Older phones were also updated to HyperOS gradually. It’s now rumoured that Xiaomi is working on HyperOS 2.0. The new version is reportedly bringing a feature that could help detect hidden cameras.
Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0 hidden camera feature
- Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2.0 update will be able to detect hidden cameras, according to a report by XiaomiTime. This will be done through (wireless local-area network) WLAN-based searches.
- The report has a screenshot of this feature dubbed “Camera scan.” The description reads, “Detect hidden cameras to protect your privacy and personal safety.” You’ll have to tap on it to start scanning the area for any possible hidden cameras.
- Once the scan is over, you’ll see the results on the screen whether there were any cameras found or if there aren’t any.
This would be a very helpful feature for security and privacy and with the easy accessibility on a phone. There is no official information yet but it looks like Xiaomi is indeed testing the feature for the HyperOS 2.0 update. Once the update rolls out, it’s expected to be available in several Xiaomi phones.
In addition to this hidden camera detection feature, Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2.0 is also expected to feature an iOS-like recent apps panel that lets you swipe through the different apps. It’s also tipped to add a RAM booster up to 16GB from a minimum of 6GB.
Xiaomi is expected to roll out HyperOS 2.0 in October, the same time as the first version. It will come with the new Android 15 version that should be announced by September. As for phones not updated to Android 15 will still get HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 14.
