“LPDDR5 RAM uses an advanced packing technology that allows it to cram 12GB RAM on a single die. It has a transmission rate of up to 6.4Gbps, 20 percent faster than LPDDR4x”
Xiaomi Mi 10 is confirmed to ship with Snapdragon 865 SoC and 5G connectivity. The MIUI 11 build for the Redmi K30 5G revealed there is also a Mi 10 Pro model and it would come with 66W fast-charging support. Now, according to the latest report from China, Micron will be mass-producing the world’s first low-power LPDDR5 DRAM chip, which will be present on most flagship smartphones soon, including the Mi 10. It uses an advanced packing technology that allows it to cram 12GB RAM on a single die. It has a transmission rate of up to 6.4Gbps, 20 percent faster than LPDDR4x and features a 50 percent improvement in data access speed. Additionally, the LPDDR5 reduces power consumption by more than 20 percent compared to the previous generation.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 is said to be the first smartphone to include the new LPDDR5 module, although there are reports that the Samsung Galaxy S20 will also come with LPDDR5 with up to 16GB of RAM. The Galaxy S20 is scheduled to launch on February 11th, while the Mi 10 is rumoured to launch a couple of days after that.
Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun on Weibo revealed the company initially planned on including LPDDR5 RAM on the high-end variant of the Mi 10 but considering the performance improvements brought by the Snapdragon 865, it’ll now be present on all Mi 10 variants. The LPDDR5 RAM also reduces the processing time for 100MP photos and high-resolution video editing. The Mi 10-series could pack up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM as devices with up to 16GB RAM would be made available in the second half of 2020.
