“The Mi 6S is expected to be a new variant based on Xiaomi’s Mi 6 smartphone and run Android Pie”
Xiaomi seems to be working on a new Mi 6 variant as details of an upcoming smartphone, named Mi 6S, have emerged online for the first time. The purported Mi 6S specifications, as revealed by a benchmark listing, are quite similar to those of the Mi 6 but there is one welcome surprise on the software side.
The Mi 6S benchmark listing reveals no changes on the device’s core specs, and shows it will be powered by last year’s flagship chipset Snapdragon 835, and will be aided by 6 gigs of RAM. The only notable difference here is the OS. While the Mi 6S will reportedly run Android 9 Pie out of the box, the Mi 6 was announced with Android Nougat. Apart from this, there aren’t many details about the handset; however, with the said specs the Mi 6S has managed to log a single-core score of 1830 and a multi-core score of 6944 on Geekbench.
For the uninitiated, the Mi 6 comes with a 5.15-inch display with no swanky 18:9 or 19:9 aspect ratio. The handset is studded with a premium glass-sandwich design. For photography, it boasts of dual 12MP sensors on the rear and an 8MP shooter up front for selfies and video calling. A 3,300mAh non-removable battery powers the handset and there’s 64GB/ 128GB storage onboard.
In related news, Xiaomi is all set to announce its flagship Mi Mix series smartphone, the Mi Mix 3 shortly. The handset will come with an impressive screen-to-body aspect ratio and reportedly feature Snapdragon 845 SoC. Stay tuned for more updates.
