“Xiaomi has sent out invites for a product launch event in China”
Thanks to the rumour mill, by now everyone knows that Xiaomi is working on the Mi 6X and Mi 7 smartphones. Both these smartphones have seen their fair share of leaks and reports in the past. While the Xiaomi Mi 6X is rumoured to be a mid-range offering, the Mi 7 is expected to arrive as the brand’s next-gen flagship. Now, Xiaomi’s Senior Vice President Wang Xiang took to Twitter to announce that the company’s latest smartphone would be unveiled on April 25th.
Xiang also revealed that the event will be held at China’s Wuhan University, which happens to be the alma mater of Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun. The executive didn’t reveal the name of the phone to be launched at the event, and simply said that, “Are you excited to find out which device it is?”. So it’s safe to assume that the phone can be either be the Mi 6X mid-ranger or the Mi 7 flagship. However, since the Mi 7 is rumoured to be announced towards the end of this quarter, the brand could unveil the Mi 6X at the event. Notably, the Mi 6X is expected to be launched as the Mi A2 in markets like India as an Android One offering, considering its predecessor Mi 5X was launched as the Mi A1 in the country.
According to leaks, the Xiaomi Mi 6X is expected to come with a 5.99-inch display bearing a full HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. On the performance front, the device is rumoured to be powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 626 processor, mated to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. For imaging, the upcoming Mi series phone is said to come with a dual 20MP + 8MP rear camera setup and a 20-megapixel selfie shooter. A 2,910mAh battery is expected to power the handset. The phone is also likely to offer the same metal unibody design as the recently-launched Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro (review).
