“The Mi 8 is expected to be the special 8th-anniversary limited-edition flagship from the brand”
Xiaomi is all set to host its 2018 Annual Product Launch Event in China on May 31st. The brand is widely rumoured to launch its 8th-anniversary limited edition Xiaomi Mi 8 flagship at the upcoming event. We recently saw numerous leaks of the smartphone, including the alleged retail box, front panel and a hands-on video showing the under-display fingerprint scanner. Now, ahead of the event, a new set of leaked images have appeared on Chinese social media giving us a glimpse of the front and rear panels of the smartphone.
The front panel, as seen in the newest image, is in-line with what we have already seen in the previous leaks. We can see the display notch at the top with a faint hint of the array of sensors, which are purported to enable ever 3D face recognition module. Moving on to the rear, the image reveals a glass panel, which seems to be transparent. The internals of the smartphone can be clearly seen in the image with a processor from Qualcomm, along with the dual-camera module. However, we suggest you take these images with a pinch of salt as they seem to be sketchy at this point.
To recap on the rumoured specs, the smartphone is expected to come with a 6.01-inch display with an under-display fingerprint scanner. For performance, the Mi 8 is tipped to come with Snapdragon 845 processor. Xiaomi is expected to offer the smartphone in two configurations – 6GB RAM + 64GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. While there are no details available regarding camera specs, the Mi 8 is speculated to flaunt dual rear cameras with 2x optical zoom and AI capabilities.
As for the pricing, the base variant of the flagship is expected to retail for RMB 2,799 (~Rs 29,900), while the higher-end variant is rumoured to cost RMB 3,199 (~Rs 34,200). We will have more details about the smartphone in coming days, so stay tuned.
