“Xiaomi is expected to launch the 8th-anniversary edition Mi 8 at its Annual Product Launch Event in Shenzhen”
Just yesterday, we came across Xiaomi’s media invite for its 2018 Annual Product Launch Event, which is expected in near future. The brand has already confirmed that the event will witness multiple product launches. It has been speculated that the flagship Mi 7 and the 8th Anniversary Edition phone Xiaomi Mi 8 might be unveiled at the upcoming event. Now, a couple of images have popped up on the Internet showing the alleged retail box and the front panel of the Mi 8.
In the image (below), we see an all-black retail box with Mi branding and the number 8 on the top, suggesting that the moniker will be Mi 8. However, it’s the second image (above) reveals some interesting information. The front panel reveals a taller display with an expected 19:9 aspect ratio as we can see the display notch on the top. The notch seems to be housing an array of sensors, which is likely to be the module for 3D facial recognition. Notably, the Xiaomi Mi 8 is rumoured to be the first smartphone to flaunt 3D face recognition feature. Other rumoured features include Snapdragon 845, OLED display, and under-display fingerprint scanner.
Apart from these bits, no further information about the smartphone is known at the moment. Xiaomi has not announced a date for the event as well, however, we will bring you more updates soon as they emerge. Stay tuned.
