“Ukraine will be the first international market Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite launches in, and may arrive in more countries over the next month”
The Mi 8 Lite will be launching globally starting with Ukraine on Wednesday, October 17th, Xiaomi spokesperson Donovan Sung confirmed via a tweet yesterday. The unveiling will be hosted in the capital city of Kiev at 7 pm local time (9:30pm IST). This makes Ukraine the first market where Xiaomi is bringing its new Mi 8 Lite, which was unveiled as Mi 8 Youth in China in September.

The Mi 8 Lite is also expected to debut in Taiwan on November 11, according to Taiwanese media platform ePrice. The launch date has been strategically set as 11/11/2018, as it collides with Single’s Day in Taiwan (a major shopping festival in the country). The Mi 8 Pro – its bigger sibling that was launched the same day in China – has also been confirmed to go global.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite sports a 6.26-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. It comes with a notch on top. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 processor, coupled with 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB of on-board storage. In terms of security, the Mi 8 Lite features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. However unlike other Mi 8 variants, the Mi 8 Lite doesn’t offer either IR face unlock or 3D face unlock.
Coming to the imaging department, it has a dual rear camera system with a 12MP primary sensor and a secondary 5MP lens for depth sensing. On the front side the device houses a 24MP snapper for selfies and video calling needs. It runs on an MIUI skin based on Android 8.1 Oreo and sips juice from a 3350 mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0. On the connectivity front, the smartphone include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 with LE, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector.
In China the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is available for a starting price of 1,399 Yuan (Rs. 14,938 approx). There’s no information regarding its India release or pricing, but considering it’s a budget device set for a global release, Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite should make it to the country sooner than later.
