“The Xiaomi Mi 8 is the 8th-anniversary edition flagship from the brand”
Xiaomi has been aggressively teasing its upcoming 2018 Annual Product Launch Event to be held in Shenzhen, China, where it’s expected to launch the Mi 8 among others. The handset has already been part of numerous leaks in recent past including the alleged retail box, front panel and a hands-on video of the under-display fingerprint scanner. Now, the brand has shared a new teaser image pointing that only six days remain for the launch event along with a subtle hint at unlocking capabilities of the smartphone.
According to the report, the pattern on the number 6 as seen in the teaser image resembles the arrangement of the 3D face recognition module that the smartphone is expected to offer. Notably, the Xiaomi Mi 8 is tipped to be the world’s first phone to come with a 3D face unlock module comprising of features like selfie camera, proximity sensor, ambient sensor, infrared lens, flood illuminator and dot projector. The module is said to work flawlessly even in low-light conditions. Further, a fingerprint pattern can be seen in the circle, hinting at the under-display fingerprint scanner. The Chinese text on the image translates to ‘Who is missing the wind? This time really _____ unlocked,’ which is not much of a help.
To recap on the past leaks, the Xiaomi Mi 8 is speculated to come with a 6.01-inch display and likely to be powered by the top-tier Snapdragon 845 processor. The handset maker is expected to offer the flagship device in two configurations – 6GB RAM + 64GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. The smartphone is expected to ship with dual rear cameras featuring 2x optical zoom and AI capabilities. Unfortunately, no further information about the handset is known at this point.
Moving to the pricing of the Xiaomi Mi 8, reports claim that the 6GB model of the handset will cost RMB 2,799 (~Rs 29,900 and the 8GB model is likely to set you back by RMB 3,199 (~Rs 34,200).
