“The Mi 8 Youth is reported to carry a Snapdragon 710 SoC and a notch-toting display”
Xiaomi has confirmed the launch of the new Mi 8 Youth smartphone at its upcoming event on September 19th in Chengdu, China. The brand revealed the piece of information on its Weibo account, a day after it teased the launch of a new smartphone in the country. The invite hasn’t revealed much about the device, but it is said to be an entry-level offering in Xiaomi’s flagship Mi 8 series. In addition, the purported Mi 8 Youth has been spotted in the hands of the Chinese actor and singer Kris Wu.
The image shows the handset from the rear, which flaunts dual cameras horizontally-aligned at the top-right corner. The setup is similar to the renders of the Mi 8 Youth we have seen on previous leaks. Apart from that, the offering comes in a gradient colour scheme with turquoise blue shifting to purple, similar to the Aurora colour variant of the Huawei P20 Pro.
While the front of the Mi 8 Youth is not visible, it’s said to feature a notched display just like its siblings. Multiple rumours point towards a 19:9 aspect ratio display on the handset with screen panel that’s 6.28-inches tall. Under the hood, it could employ Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 710 SoC paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB expandable storage. On the camera front, the Mi 8 Youth is expected to feature dual 12MP+5MP sensors on the rear and a 24MP snapper on the front. A 3,500mAh battery may round up the spec sheet of the handset.
We’re not sure at what price the Mi 8 Youth will retail, but a TENAA listing suggests that the device could come in Space Gray, Gold, and Blue colors.
