“The Mi Max 3 brings an 18:9 display and dual rear cameras to the Mi Max series”
Xiaomi finally took the wraps off the Mi Max 3 smartphone — the successor of the Mi Max 2 (review) — at an event in China, today. As expected, the company’s latest Mi Max series handset sports a large display and a massive battery. Besides, it also is the first phone in this series to have a taller 18:9 display, fast charging, dual rear cameras, and AI capabilities.
Coming to the specifications, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 sports a 6.9-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display with minimal bezels on the sides and slim bezels on the top and bottom. Powering the phone is a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, accompanied by an Adreno 509 GPU. The smartphone comes in two RAM and storage configurations — 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB. Keeping things up and running is a massive 5,500mAh battery, which supports Quick Charge 3.0.
Moving on to the camera, the Mi Max 3 employs a 12-megapixel primary shooter, accompanied by a 5-megapixel secondary snapper at the rear. The dual-camera setup is backed by Dual PD focus, an LED flash, and AI features, which can detect up to 206 different scenes. For selfies, the phone gets an 8-megapixel shooter with support for face unlock.
In terms of the design, the phone sports an all-metal unibody build with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Software-wise, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 boots Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI out of the box. The connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi with MIMO, Bluetooth 5, GPS + GLONASS, and USB Type-C.
The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 has been priced in China at RMB 1,699 (~Rs 17,300) for the base model and RMB 1,999 (~Rs 20,400) for the 6GB RAM variant. The phone comes in three colour options of Meteorite Black, Dream Gold and Dark Blue. The device will go on sale in its home country starting July 20th. As of now, the brand hasn’t revealed if and when it’s planning to release the handset globally.
