Xiaomi teases the Mi Mix 3 with a slide-out front camera, set to launch in October

“Xiaomi’s confirmation comes in response to Honor’s Magic 2 teaser at the ongoing IFA 2018 event in Berlin”

Honor has just teased that it’ll also join the full-screen smartphone battle in form of Honor Magic 2, a device that will come with the slide-out front camera module. However, its counterpart Xiaomi has played spoilsport. Close on the heels of Magic 2 revelation by Honor at IFA, Xiaomi’s President – Lin Bin – has taken to Weibo to share the first official image of the upcoming Mi Mix 3. The upcoming flagship looks strikingly similar to Honor’s upcoming handset and seems to be sporting the same slide-out mechanism.

The image shared by Xiaomi’s top executive give us the glimpse of the Mix 3 fascia in all its glory. The caption by Bin reads, “Sorry, they look alike. We’re launching in October.” In the image, we can see that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is a true-blue all screen smartphone with a back panel that slides up to reveal the front cameras and an earpiece. The prominent chin that was the signature design element of Mi Mix series is also gone. Unlike the OPPO Find X (first impressions), where the sliding mechanism is motorised, on the Mi Mix 3, it will be manual, just like the good ol’ slider phones. The slide-out portion can be seen housing a dual selfie camera module, an earpiece and what looks like a selfie flash. However, the post didn’t reveal much else about the upcoming smartphone.

The Mi Mix 3 has been subjected to a number of leaks and reports in the recent past. The earlier reports suggest that the upcoming flagship will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor to drive the performance. Xiaomi is expected to offer the flagship in two RAM and storage variants – 6GB + 64GB and 8GB + 256GB. An alleged hands-on image also suggested that the handset might come with a dual-camera array on the rear panel. As for the display, the phone is expected to feature an AMOLED panel with 2K screen resolution.

Lin Bin has already confirmed that the smartphone will see an October launch. Apart from that, the President also mentioned that the brand is planning to go to “large-scale retail” by end of October, which could mean that we won’t have to wait for long for the global launch of the smartphone.
