As per the tweet, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will come with a 24-megapixel camera at the front with selfie light. It’s not clear whether the secondary snapper is also of 24MP resolution or it’s a depth-sensing unit.

It has also come to light that the Mi Mix 3 will also support 960fps video recording mode, a feature currently restricted to the premium smartphones like the Galaxy S9 duo (review), Note9 (review) and Xperia XZ2. In all the devices the 960fps was possible only because of Sony’s IMX345 sensor, which has a DRAM die to temporarily store the frames and then the same is passed on the image buffer. That being said, Huawei also offers 960fps recording on its P20 Pro (review), however the brand uses frame interpolation and this approach generally results in inferior-looking videos.

The folks at XDA Developers checked out Mi Mix 3’s firmware and found out that it uses the frame interpolation. A particular string value named “SUPPORT_FPS_960” is set to “s_f_9” in the MIUI Camera app. This leads the publication to believe that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will indeed support for 960fps clips.
