“The Mi MIX Alpha is Xiaomi’s flagship offering with Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC and over 180 percent screen-to-body ratio”
Mi MIX Alpha, the highly-anticipated flagship offering from Xiaomi, has been launched in China. The Mi MIX Alpha is a concept phone and comes with a bunch of noteworthy features. To start with, the handset is the world’s first smartphone with a whopping 108-megapixel sensor at the triple camera setup at the back. The sensor uses pixel binning technology to stitch four 27MP images into a single 108MP photo with 12,032 x 9,024 pixels resolution. The Mi MIX Alpha also boasts of a wraparound display, which is joined by a camera strip on the back panel. The phone has an astounding 180.6 percent screen-to-body ratio, a vibrating display for speaker, and pressure-sensitive virtual buttons instead of hardware power and volume buttons.
Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha specifications and features
Xiaomi calls the Mi MIX Alpha’s wraparound display Surround Screen, allowing users to switch the content to the rear screen from the front seamlessly. To prevent false touches of the secondary screen when it is held in the hand, the smartphone comes with mis-touch detection technologies such as multi-sensors and AI algorithms. The sides are obviously curved and can be used to show notifications, host widgets, etc. For selfies, there is no camera sensor in the front – instead, the triple rear camera setup and secondary camera will do duty for selfies too.
The 108MP is Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor that is capable of impressive images in ‘extreme’ lighting conditions, thanks to over 100 million effective pixels. The sensor is 1/1.33-inch in size that means it will be able to absorb more light with its large surface area. The ISOCELL Bright sensor is also touted to capture videos at resolutions up to 6K (6016 x 3384 pixels) at 30fps.
For photography, the 108-megapixel primary sensor on the Mi MIX Alpha is paired with a 20-megapixel wide-angle lens + 12-megapixel depth-sensor with 2x zoom at the back. Other major highlights include flagship-grade Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC, 5G connectivity, 12GB of RAM, 512GB USB 3.0 storage, a beefy 4,050 battery, and 40W fast charging support.
The Mi MIX Alpha 5G has been priced at RMB 19,999 (roughly ~Rs 2,00,000) in China – making it the most expensive smartphone from Xiaomi ever.
