“Xiaomi debuts its Play series in China with the launch of the affordable Mi Play smartphone”
Xiaomi took the wraps off the Mi Play smartphone on its home soil. The handset is the first front the brand to come with Play branding and sport a notch atop the display. The phone also flaunts a premium gradient finish back with a layer of glass up top, dual rear cameras at the top-right corner, and a fingerprint sensor at the centre. As the name suggests, the Mi Play is being positioned as an affordable gaming smartphone and is targeted at the youth.

Xiaomi Mi Play price and availability
The Xiaomi Mi Play has been launched with a sticker price of RMB 1,099 (~Rs 11,000). The phone comes in Blue, Red, and Black colour options – the first two come with gradient finish, while Black does not. It will become available for pre-orders from December 25th in China.
Xiaomi Mi Play specifications
To start with, the Xiaomi Mi Play sports a 5.84-inch display with Full-HD+ (1,080 x 2,280 pixel) resolution with 19:9 aspect ratio and a waterdrop-style notch. Despite that, the handset comes with a hefty chin and noticeable bezels on the sides. At its core lies a MediaTek’s 2.3GHz Helio P35 chipset forged on the 12nm fabrication process. The SoC is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage that you can further boost by adding a microSD card.
In the camera department, the Mi Play features a 12-megapixel primary sensor on the rear along with 2-megapixel secondary depth-sensing snapper and LED flash. The front camera gets an 8-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calling. The cameras are backed by artificial intelligence (AI) to further enhance the results and features like HDR and Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS).
Android-based MIUI 10 custom UI runs the handset, while a 3,000mAh battery powers it. In terms of connectivity, the Mi Play offers dual-SIM support, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/ GLONASS, 3.5mm headphone jack and micro USB port. The handset weighs 150 grams and measures 7.8mm in thickness. It also has the company’s Xiao AI onboard.
