Xiaomi rolls out Hotstar app to its Mi TV line-up in India

Last month, Xiaomi launched its Redmi Note 5 (review) and Redmi Note 5 Pro (first impressions) in India. Along with the affordable smartphones, the Chinese tech giant also debuted its television lineup in the country with the announcement of the Mi LED Smart TV 4 (review). Xiaomi then went on to expand the lineup with the launch of Xiaomi Mi TV 4A series – Mi TV 4A 43-inch and Mi TV 4A 32-inch, earlier this month. Now, the handset maker has started rolling out support for value-added streaming services to provide content to its users.

Xiaomi has added the Hotstar app to the latest Mi TV LED smart TVs. The app can be accessed by going to the ‘More Apps’ section on your Mi TV. With the newest addition, users can now stream live sports, movies, and TV shows. At the time of the launch, Xiaomi announced that it has partnered with the likes of Hotstar, SunNxt, Voot, Sony LIV, Hungama, Zee5, ALTBalaji, Viu, TVF, and flickstree. With these apps, Xiaomi promised more than 5,00,000 hours of content for its users. Now that Hotstar has already rolled out, we can expect support for other providers to come soon.

Coming to the spec sheet of the Mi TV 4, the 55-inch television comes with 4K HDR support and has been claimed to be the “world’s thinnest” LED TV, with a thickness of just 4.9mm. The TV comes powered by a quad-core Amlogic 64-bit processor coupled with 2GB of RAM, 8GB storage, and Mali-T830 graphics. On the software front, the Mi TV 4 runs the Android-based PatchWall UI, which offers personalised content based on user’s watching pattern. For connectivity, users get dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11ac), Bluetooth 4.0, three HDMI ports, and two USB (3.0+2.0), AV, S/PDIF, and Ethernet ports. Other features include Dolby + DTS Cinema audio supported sound bars and a bundled Bluetooth remote.

The Mi LED Smart TV 4 55-inch can be picked for Rs 39,999, 43-inch model of Mi TV 4A retails for Rs 22,999 while the 32-inch model will set you back by Rs 13,999. These models can be picked up from Mi.com, Mi Homes, and Flipkart.
