Xiaomi could be working on a new smartphone design that has a rotating selfie camera, according to the patent it filed at China National Intellectual Property, as discovered by 91mobiles. The patent was filed back in November 2020 and was published this week. From the front, it has a typical smartphone design with an immersive screen-to-body ratio and at the back we see a circular camera module. The phone also has a USB Type-C port and speaker grille at the bottom. However, what differentiates it from other phones is the rotating selfie camera. The phone has a semi-circular module the rotates 180-degree from the top frame. The phone seems to have dual camera lenses on the front.

When the selfie camera is triggered from the camera app, the module rotates 180-degrees to bring out the selfie camera. This way, the company can offer a complete display experience with edge-to-edge bezels, which seems to a new agenda for Xiaomi as it filed for various design patents in recent months to achieve the goal. OPPO filed a similar patent back in 2019, wherein it used three separate gears to bring the front camera above the display. The Xiaomi patent shows it has at least dual cameras on the back along with an LED flash. That’s pretty much everything we so far know about the Xiaomi phone but since it’s still in the patent stage, it isn’t clear when the company might launch it officially.

Separately, Xiaomi recently filed for a patent that showed a phone with a pop-up camera o top. The module can rotate after it slides out from the phone. This means it will offer a complete display experience on the front. The pop-up slider will function as both front and rear camera.
