Xiaomi, India’s top smartphone brand by shipment volume, has announced a partnership with homegrown telecom operator Reliance Jio, to enable 5G connectivity on its smartphones. List of Xiaomi phones supporting Jio 5G

The list of Xiaomi smartphones that will now support Reliance Jio’s 5G network in India includes Mi 11 Ultra 5G, Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G, Xiaomi 11T Pro 5G, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G, Redmi Note 11T 5G, Redmi 11 Prime 5G, Redmi Note 10T 5G, Mi 11X 5G, Mi 11X Pro 5G, Redmi K50i 5G, Xiaomi 11i 5G and Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G — as per the company’s statement yesterday.

The move makes Xiaomi the latest brand to roll out 5G partnerships in India. Earlier this year, OnePlus also announced a partnership with Jio to bring 5G connectivity to its smartphones.

To be sure, the rollouts and partnerships will also support other formats of 5G connectivity, and make the smartphones compatible with both Reliance Jio’s standalone 5G, and Bharti Airtel’s non-standalone 5G networks, in India. Standalone 5G refers to the network infrastructure where even the core and the customer endpoints of the network are upgraded to suit 5G’s requisite latency and bandwidth specifications.

Non-standalone 5G, on the other hand, shares the same network infrastructure core with 4G but upgrades the endpoints to offer better latency and bandwidth.

While standalone 5G is typically better, thus making Jio with a theoretically superior network, Airtel has also stated that its network is ready for the same, and would be upgraded in due time.
