Xiaomi sends out invites for press event in New Delhi tomorrow, Redmi 2 launch expected

Xiaomi India has sent out press invites for an event in Delhi tomorrow. The invite doesn’t reveal the device the brand will be launching in the country, but the image in the invite indicates that it could be the Redmi 2 (review FAQs). The phone was launched in China in the first week of January. It brings support for 4G LTE at a budget-friendly price tag of around Rs 7,100.

Xiaomi Redmi 2 March 12 India

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is compatible with India’s 4G LTE band 40. The device sports a 4.7-inch IPS HD display, and is powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor. It houses 1GB/2GB of RAM and 8GB/16GB of internal memory, further expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card. For imaging, the Redmi 2 houses an 8MP rear camera with a BSI sensor, an Omnivision sensor and an LED flash, and a 2MP front shooter.

Apart from 4G LTE, the smartphone offers Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, and A-GPS. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 on top, and is fuelled by a 2,200mAh battery. It comes in five different hues like white, grey, and yellow.

There’s a chance that Xiaomi might also reveal details about the launch of the Mi Pad (first impressions) tablet in India tomorrow. We’ll have more details on this by tomorrow.
