The Xiaomi Redmi 6A also marks the debut of the newest entry-level chipset from MediaTek. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A ships with a 5-inch IPS LCD display with the standard 1,280 x 720 pixels screen resolution. The Redmi 6A on the other hand, brings the 18:9 aspect ratio to the table with its 5.45-inch display bearing a screen resolution of 1,440 x 720 pixels. Needless to say, the newest launch offers a better and more immersive viewing experience.

Moving on to the performance, the 6A is the world’s first smartphone to come with the 12nm MediaTek Helio A22 quad-core processor clocked at 2GHz. Xiaomi also announced that the latest processor offers up to 37 percent performance improvement and 48 percent better battery efficiency compared to Snapdragon 425 powering the 5A. Also, the Redmi 6A gets the AI face unlock and voice assistant.

Xiaomi Redmi 6A vs Redmi 5A: what’s similar

Apart from the aforementioned changes, Xiaomi has retained rest of the spec sheet from last year’s Redmi 5A. The 6A flaunts a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front snapper, just like its predecessor. Both handsets get a 3,000mAh battery under the hood. In terms of the software, while the Redmi 6A comes with MIUI running atop Android Oreo out of the box, the 5A is expected to receive the same soon, though currently it runs MIUI 9 with Android Nougat as its base.
