Did Redmi phone with Helio G90T just get certified in China?

“A new Xiaomi smartphone with model number M1906G7T has been certified by MIIT, leading to speculation it could be the Helio G90T-powered handset”

Xiaomi last month confirmed it will soon launch a smartphone powered by the new gaming-centric MediaTek Helio G90T in India. Similarly, Redmi has also teased a 64MP camera phone in China a couple of weeks back. And today, we have a completely new Redmi model getting certification at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China ahead of launch. The model number for this phone is M1906G7T and it’s a new handset. The rumour mill in China has been abuzz with talk that Redmi’s new handset is coming this month and that is why this certification takes important position.

redmi-new-phone-miit-august-2019It is being said that Redmi is wary of the Honor 9X that has just been announced in China with the powerful Kirin 810 SoC. The Xiaomi subsidiary wants to quickly release a befitting product that will compete with the Honor budget handset. And the dominant speculation is that the Redmi Note 8 might launch soon to counter the upcoming Honor as well as Realme handsets. There is still no official confirmation regarding this but an unofficial teaser of a press conference believed to be regarding the 64MP camera of Redmi has been doing the rounds since yesterday. If that teaser is legit, the conference could take place as early as August 7th provided Xiaomi (or Redmi) officially shares the teaser today.

On the other side of the Great Wall, Realme also has an event on August 8th to show off a quad-camera phone with a 64MP primary sensor. Given the fierce competition between the two, Redmi will likely hasten the launch of its own 64MP camera handset in China. Whether the Helio G90T and 64MP camera can be in the same smartphone is something we still can not say but one thing is for sure. We’re expecting some interesting developments this month itself.
