Xiaomi plans to discontinue Redmi Note 7 in India with the launch of Redmi Note 7S

“The Redmi Note 7 was launched in India just a little over two months ago”

Xiaomi is planning to discontinue the Redmi Note 7 (review) smartphone in India after the launch of the Redmi Note 7S yesterday. The latter offers slightly upgraded features but is being offered in the same price range as the former. Thus, the Redmi Note 7 will be phased out, and it will not be available to buy in the country after a few days or when the remaining stock clears out.

Notably, the Redmi Note 7 was launched in India just a little over two months ago. Xiaomi hasn’t revealed the exact reason behind the discontinuation. However, in a tweet, Anuj Sharma, Head of Marketing, Xiaomi India says, “More connected with lifecycle volumes than time. Sometimes planned volumes sell out faster than expected (way faster)”.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S comes in two RAM and storage configurations – 3GB RAM + 32GB and 4GB RAM + 64GB, which are priced at Rs 10,999 and Rs 12,999. To compare, the Redmi Note 7’s base 3GB + 32GB model is retailing at Rs 9,999, while the higher-end 4GB + 64GB variant is being offered for Rs 11,999.

It’s worth mentioning that the Redmi Note 7S is essentially the Redmi Note 7 variant that’s retailing in China. The phone’s biggest highlight is its dual primary camera setup comprising of a 48MP Samsung GM1 sensor and a 5MP secondary snapper. The handset also offers PDAF, EIS, HDR imaging, and AI portrait mode. For selfies and video calling, there’s a 13MP snapper. Design-wise, the handset has a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and back and gets a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

As for the other specs, the Redmi Note 7S sports a 6.3-inch full-HD+ Dot Notch display, and is powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor. The phone boots Android 9 Pie based MIUI 10 out of the box. The connectivity options include 4G LTE, dual-SIM slots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB Type-C port, and GPS with GLONASS. A 4,000mAh battery with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging support completes the list of the specifications.
