“The teaser image from the brand reveals the letter S with no further clarification”
Xiaomi is expected to launch two new smartphones this month – Xiaomi Mi 7 and Redmi S2. Today, the Chinese smartphone maker has teased a new product announcement via its Weibo handle with just the letter ‘S’ on it. This has opened the floodgates to the speculations as to what this device could be. A leaked teaser earlier suggested that the Xiaomi Mi 7 could be launched in China on May 23rd. Therefore, it is possible that this could be a separate launch teaser for the Redmi S2.
To recap on the Redmi S2, the smartphone is speculated to ship with a 5.99-inch 18:9 display bearing a resolution of 1,440 x 720 pixels. In the performance department, the handset is tipped to be powered by a 2.2 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC, mated to Adreno 506 GPU. Xiaomi is expected to launch the smartphone in three variants with 2GB RAM / 4GB RAM / 6GB RAM and 16GB / 32GB / 64GB built-in storage, respectively. The smartphone is rumoured to feature the same design as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro (review) with the fingerprint scanner on the back panel.
In the imaging department, the Redmi S2 is rumoured to be equipped with a 12MP + 8MP camera setup at the rear and a 16MP selfie shooter. The smartphone will likely run MIUI 9 interface based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Further, a 3,000mAh battery is tipped to keep the lights on for the smartphone. Apart from this information, nothing else is known about the upcoming phone. However, it is believed that the Redmi S2 will be a budget smartphone.
According to the previous reports, the smartphone is expected to be offered in black, gold, grey, pink, red, rose gold, silver, and white colour options. However, there’s no word regarding the launch date at the moment.
