Xiaomi unveils ‘colourful and creative’ CC smartphone series in China

Xiaomi CC

“Xiaomi X Meitu AI Aesthetics Lab would combine advanced camera hardware and beauty technology”

After teasing the series for some time, Xiaomi has finally announced its new ‘CC’ smartphone series in China that is aimed at photography enthusiasts. This series will be in collaboration with Meitu, which Xiaomi acquired in 2018. CC reads colourful and creative, and the Chic & Cool 90 team will be responsible for its development. Xiaomi says that the ‘CC’ series will have the youngest group of the company managing the design. It is also the third-series smartphone for the company after Mi and Redmi.

Furthermore, Xiaomi head Lei Jun, in a Weibo post, said that as a young team, the CC team would have ideas of young people. The CC series will follow the popular “colour trends of the year and use the best appearance technology to achieve designs that others can’t think of.” It will also have a new aesthetics concept of “Xiaomi X Meitu AI Aesthetics Lab,” that combines advanced camera hardware and beauty technology. It is possible that Xiaomi might develop new filters and AI engines to enhance photo quality.

Separately, noted tipster Ice Universe recently shared a teaser image of the upcoming Meitu-branded smartphone with ASUS ZenFone 6Z like a flip camera but with triple rear cameras instead and LED flash. While we don’t have the details for all sensors yet, the primary sensor could be a 48MP snapper. It also seems to have a gradient finish and a glossy back. On the same note, another mysterious Xiaomi phone with model number M1904F3BC was certified by China’s 3C regulatory agency, and the images of the phone were also revealed through TENAA. Though it is not confirmed, it could be the upcoming Xiaomi CC9 smartphone.

The handset could feature a 6.39-inch OLED display with an in-display fingerprint sensor, come powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 SoC and up to 8GB of RAM. The Xiaomi Mi CC9 is believed to feature triple rear cameras with a 48MP primary sensor. On the front, it is said to have a 32MP snapper for selfies. A 4,000mAh battery fuels the phone.
