“The Mi 7 will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest processor, the Snapdragon 845”
Celebrating its 10-year anniversary of Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, the chipmaker took the covers off its latest high-end flagship chipset, the SD845. While the brand didnt divulge many details of the processor at the ongoing Snapdragon Tech Summit, it did mention that the upcoming flagship from Xiaomi will be utilising its premium chip.
Speaking at the event, Xiaomis Co-Founder Lei Jun said that Qualcomm is a valuable partner for the Chinese startup. Its first flagship, the Mi 1 was powered by Snapdragon S3 dual-core chipset and since then, their partnership has come a long way. The next flagship of the brand, the Mi 7 will continue the legacy as it will use the latest and greatest from the worlds leading chipmaker.
I am very excited to be part of the Snapdragon Technology Summit and reaffirm that Xiaomis close relationship with Qualcomm Technologies in the premium tier will continue into 2018, stated Lei Jun, founder, chairman and chief executive officer, Xiaomi. Xiaomi is committed to making devices that combine cutting-edge innovations in technology and beautiful design, while defying price expectations, and we have chosen Snapdragon 845 to power our next flagship smartphone.
While the brand didn’t give more details about the upcoming offering, at a roundtable, it highlighted that the Xiaomi Mi 7 will also feature enhanced AI capabilities. As per the rumours, it’ll be built around a 5.8-inch AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio resulting in a large screen in a smaller footprint. Under the hood, the SD845 will be paired with 6GB and 8GB of RAM, depending upon the variant. For imaging, itll reportedly flaunt dual snappers with the primary sensor offering a wide aperture of f/1.7 and a 13MP selfie camera. The battery is expected to be rated at 3,950mAh. On the software side of things, it willrunMIUI atop Android 8.0 Oreo.
If you are wondering whether the Mi 7 will be launched in India, Jun confirmed to91mobiles at a roundtable that “next year, Xiaomi definitely has plans to launch more flagships in India“. This suggests that we can certainly expect the flagship from the brand to land on our shores. And considering that Xiaomi offers competitive pricing for its smartphones, we can expect the Mi 7 to be priced almost half of other SD845-fuelled smartphones from the likes of Samsung and LG.
