Last night was pretty special for Google as the Alphabet-owned company made some big announcements at its Google I/O 2021 event. However, with the crack of dawn, Google’s video streaming service, YouTube, suffered an issue. Earlier this morning, thousands of people across the globe reported that YouTube was down. In some cases, the quality of the videos on YouTube dropped from the standard resolution to a lower resolution and in some cases, the video playback eventually crashed after the drop in the quality.
YouTube was down for a brief moment; Google quickly fixed it
Along with video playback issues, people also faced problems while uploading content on YouTube. According to people on social media, the video upload just froze in between. As people started complaining about issues with YouTube, there was an uptick in reports on DownDetector regarding the problem. According to DownForEveryoneOrJustMe, the YouTube site as a whole was down. Moreover, people also reported outages with YouTube TV and YouTube Music. On the positive side of things, reopening YouTube and playing the video again solved the issue. The same goes for video uploads.
As it became evident that the YouTube outage issue was widespread, the official Twitter account for YouTube @TeamYouTube acknowledged the issue and informed people that the company is working on a fix. After a couple of hours, YouTube made a tweet announcing that the issue has been fixed and people will now enjoy the service without any problems. We have checked YouTube on the web browser and also its Android app and everything seems to be working fine right now. This, however, isn’t the first time that YouTube was down. It has happened many times in the past.
