ZTE Axon 9 with 6-inch display and quad cameras appears in leaked images

“The ZTE Axon 9 appears to feature dual cameras at both the front and rear”

ZTE skipped launching the successor to the Axon 7 (first impressions), which was released in May 2016 in favour of the ZTE Axon 7s last year. It now seems that the brand is skipping the Axon 8 moniker completely and is instead going directly with the Axon 9 this year. The device has now turned up in a number of official-looking renders on Chinese social media platform Weibo.

ZTE Axon 9

As can be seen in the images, the ZTE Axon 9 flaunts a metallic unibody chassis. The fascia of the handset seems to be housing a taller 18:9 display, with minimal bezels on the sides and slimmer ones on the top and bottom. What’s interesting is that despite having slim bezels, ZTE seems to have opted for capacitive soft keys on the chin. Moreover, the phone seems to be flaunting a dual camera module on both the front and rear panels. We can see the volume and power buttons on the right spine of the device. The Axon branding and loudspeaker grills are visible on the bottom of the rear panel. Oddly though, there is no sign of a fingerprint scanner on the device, which means we can expect it to have face unlock instead.

ZTE Axon 9 - 1

Coming to the spec sheet of the handset, it is expected that the 18:9 display will measure 6-inches and offer QHD+ resolution of 2,880 x 1,440 pixels. The flagship device is also expected to come with the top-tier Snapdragon 845 processor. As for the RAM, the device will be offered in two variants – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128/256GB storage. In the software department, the device will run Android 8.0 Oreo. While there is no word on the cameras on the handset, it is said that the primary camera on the rear module is a 20MP unit and that on the front module is 13-megapixels.

No information regarding the pricing and availability of the device is known so far. However, it’s possible that ZTE might unveil the device at MWC that’s slated to begin this month.
