Satisfied with the purchase

Well, I work for the company which is the largest PC manufacturer of the world. However, I bought this lappy for personal use 'cause this is the cheapest in its class. A laptop with the same configuration costs close to 65k at the place where I work. I purchased it from an Authorized dealer in Bangalore. If you are one of those sapiens who believes that beauty is not in the face; it is rather a light in the heart(i7 4x2 cores, 6 gb, 1tb, 520MX), then you ought to go with this product as it is all bout performance (let me say performance ONLY) Ok. I've always been an AMD lover, but AMD A8/A6 is the best I could get on laptop so I decided to go with i7. Performance wise this is a hulk. I could run the following application without a glitch. - 13 Mozilla Firefox tabs with youtube on at least three tabs. - Anti virus scan in the background - Adobe photoshop - this is pain even on 2nd generation i3s - IE with email apps - YM - MSN messenger - Gtalk (all signed in and chatting) - Three huge excel files - iTunes - Video coding using the graphics card (just to test the load it can handle) - This while installing updates in the background - Paused was the Crysis 2 game (not a big gamer, just have some old cds) The processor handled it all with ease. 50% CPU usage. This lappy has fan at the extreme LHS, so lesser heating issues. The only low bout this laptop is the graphics card which isn't great for extreme gamers. Windows Rating: Processor 6.5/7.9 Memory 7.2/7.9 Graphics 5.8/7.9 Gaming Graphics 6.5/7.9 Primary hard disk (disk transfer rate) - 5.9 It has turbo boost upto 3.1 ghz. I've tested every inch of hardware above it's stipulated threshold and the the lappy succeeded. I'd suggest, have external woofers, change the advanced boot setting to 8 cores and you're in. Love the laptop. You wouldn't be disappointed with the purchase. Caution - It doesn't 'look' great at all, looks more like 20k compaq/acer laptop albeit with a durable body. Take my word - it's difficult to beat this one on performance. Last but not the least - Nothing beats Mac OS X. lol

Samsung brand is reliable

Pros: 1)From experience, Samsung products have quality. They are eager to become global electronic leader - so they do not compromise on quality. When consulted with laptop mechanics, they said that they very rarely see a samsung laptop come for repairs... 2)i7 processor is the mother of all processors... Even though the clock speed of i7 is usually seen as lesser than i5, you really need not be concerned. Unlike i5 where there are only 2 cores,i7 has(4)quad cores. So that means the speed and capacity of the processor will quadruple and you have in your hand a super computer. 3)I think an i7 lap will run well with 3 to 4 GB Ram... here you have 6 GB... 8 GB sounds great but 6 is quite good enough. 4)Unlike Asus, Sony, Dell and Lenovo laptops, Samsung has put an HD webcam... not a VGA 0.3 5)Hard disk is a huge 1 TB... 6)Bluetooth is V3 7)Speaker is good... Dell speakers are notoriously bad compared to samsung... Cons: 1) Graphic card should have been 2 GB instead of 1 GB. But have no worries, almost all games play quite well. 2) no 3.0 USB port... what a shame...!!! I hope Samsung will do something about it FAST! USB 3.0 drives still work with usb 2.0 but will not have the same speed. 3)No keypad back light... but I guess very few other laps have it as well... 4)1 TB hdd with RPM of only 5400... 7400rpm is already in market... so why use 5400 especially when the hdd is 1 TB? Summary: ======== This is an awesome piece of machinery. If you are really looking to keep this laptop for long term purposes... I mean at least for the next 4-6 years. Buy it with eyes closed!!! Its better than Lenovo, Asus and Sony erricson because it excels them in built quality and spec for this rate.

PowerBook

This product is now discontinued from most retailers and this review is not going to be helpful to anybody, anyway consider it to be a shout into void. So it has a i7 2nd gen quad core processor. Now that we have had quad core processors in mobile phones for over a year still they are no match for an x86 Intel processor. I had bought it over several i5s and AMD quads. The processor is clocked at 2.2 GHz base frequency and goes upto 3.1 GHz (Turbo Boost single core), 3.0 GHz (TB dual core) and 2.8 GHz (TB quad core). Not to mention Hyper Threading provides 8 logical cores for various computing needs. The RAM is 6 GB @ 1333 MT/s in configuration of 4+2. So you can throw away the 2 GB one and get a 8 GB one in its place and you will have 12 GB RAM. HDD is 1 TB. Samsung calculates 1000 B = 1 KB, 1000 KB = 1 MB, 1000 MB = 1 GB and 1000 GB = 1 TB, but Microsoft's Windows calculates as 1024 B = 1 KB, 1024 KB = 1 MB, 1024 MB = 1 GB and 1024 GB = 1 TB. So you get around 910 GB of Windows read HDD space. Display is 15.5" WXGA with a 16:9 aspect ratio, 220 nit brightness with non gloss coating. There are 300 nit brightness displays available in market from Samsung but this one is not bad in any sense. You will be using the display in full brightness only in direct sunlight, which is not going to be very often. But the display drains the battery very quickly, so its better if you stay indoors and use display at notch 3 brightness which does the job. The non gloss feature of the display is also very good and works beautifully. I have to mention that the display is better than Dell's Inspiron laptops. Dedicated graphics processor is NVidia Geforce 520MX with a dedicated memory of 1GB. It has CUDA support. You have to download and install the driver from NVidia's website as it does not come with one pre-installed even though there is Windows 7 HP. Since the laptop has a 2nd gen Intel processor it comes with the Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics. One thing to mention here is that the Intel Graphics comes with a custom Samsung driver and you will get updates for the driver only through Samsung's website not of Intel's. Intel's website warns you against downloading a different driver. Intel's graphics along with i7 does most of the tasks pretty easily and you will hardly need the NVidia. As far as connectivity goes it has 3 USB 2.0 ports - one on the left and 2 on the right just besides the DVD tray one after the other. Has a Wi-Fi WLAN and a RJ-45 LAN port, HDMI out port and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity. It has a neat and no-nonsense software to manage wireless connections from Samsung. Its pretty nice. The 6-Cell battery will surprise you. It does last quite a while. The keyboard is not back-lit. This causes some trouble sometimes. The keyboard also is designed quite weirdly, First there is no space demarcating between the QWERTY part and the Number pad, this is unlike the desktop keyboards and is a little frustrating. Also the keyboard is edge-to-edge and so when you close the lid it still leaves some gap on the sides causing dust to get in. You cannot leave it overnight on a tabletop in an open room. You either have to live in an air-conditioned capsule or keep it in your bag to protect it from dust. The 'notebook' comes with quite a few pre-installed softwares like Norton Anti-virus licensed to use for one month but it needs internet connection. Another pre-installed software is a CyberLink Media suite that has a media player and a video editing software called PowerDirector among some others. These are trial versions and are not any good. I am the last buyer of this model from Flipkart, after I got the delivery, Flipkart dropped the price to 40,900/- along with the message 'This item is Permanently discontinued.' It no longer shows in search results.

Great price, great product, excellent service from Flipkart

I was very surprised when I got a call from the Flipkart delivery guy for a product I had ordered just yesterday!! I own a Samsung NP300 i5 series laptop, so when my husband wanted to replace his old one, this i7 at a very decent price seemed like a good bargain. Based on my experience from using the i5 for the last few months and a few hours on the new i7 one, I would say Samsung has done a good job. Screen is good, no reflections. Audio is great. Love the battery life. Doesn't take too long to charge either. I have not had any heating issues with the i5. One thing I miss is not having the capslock and webcam LED indicators . In the last 2+ years we have ended up buying quite a few Samsung products - washing machine, fridge, tv, laptop - we did not really go out looking for only Samsung products but time n again found that they usually r the best value for money products. Have not had any complaints with any of these products. For 45k and the flipkart service, I would say go for it.

Value for money laptop

This is a value for money laptop for the features it provides - 2nd gen i7, 6GB RAM, 1TB hard disk. 1. Laptop gets heated up very quickly. Would recommend using a cooling pad always for this model. 2. Performance is very good for the given configuration. 3. Webcam quality is average. 4. Takes time to get used to the keyboard. Having used Lenovo Thinkpad for long it takes a while to adjust to this keyboard. 5. Looks of the laptop are decent enough. 6. Quality of sound is good. 7. LED is also good enough.
