6 Months Review of using THIS chromebook

I am rating this device 5 star as it is easily worth it. But the pricing is insane. I published a review on this earlier but it was removed as it had links to my blog. pasting my ENTIRE review here, hope you like it !, If you wanted to read a review of the device itself, do head over to my site at STWEB dot BIZ Google Chromebooks in India : Why Indians can be Fooled so Easily ? by shalabh • October 23, 2013 • 0 Comments I was pleasantly surprised when Google, in a bold move, decided to launch its own, no-frills, Operating System , the Chrome OS. Even more surprised seeing the Fast, Powerful and Reliable 199 USD Chromebooks. Hell, I am typing this on one of them right now. Chromebooks, after initial skepticism, were a rage among school students and anyone who was looking for a No-Nonsense basic Laptop/Netbook. All that was great. So why the heck when launched in India, for Rs. 22,999/-(~ 383 USD) (Acer Chromebook) A whopping 91% Premium ?? Rs.26,999/-(450 USD) for a 270 USD HP Chromebook.(66% premium) Are We Indians that Stupid ? It reminded me of one of the golden lines of Marketing, ” The more you charge, the less people will complain.” It is apt for Indians. We are just not used to seeing a 199 USD laptop and are ready to pay double of that for premium apple ipads. Half of Indians would think it as a joke and the other half will doubt the quality and the functionality of a Web based OS(Chrome OS). Justified when one doesn’t have Reliable Internet Connectivity, isn’t it ? It also makes business sense. Who the hell would buy a Rs. 20k(333 USD) ‘BRANDED’ mobile phone or a Rs. 45k (750 USD) laptop, when you can get 80% of your work done , twice as fast. And those too from the same Manufacturers who sell Laptops and phones in India, would severely affect their profit margins. Another reason could be to limit the ‘Fire Sale’ these manufacturers suspected.Indians, seeing such a cost effective product actually being produced and sold, are likely to stand in queues to buy one. Effectively killing a market for Phones, Tablets and Laptops ! If Chromebooks, produced in China, could travel halfway around the world and could be sold for 199 USD with much fanfare, why the hell can’t they be sold in India, AT LEAST for the same price ?? Perhaps now you can get a hold of the Indian Mindset, and how choosy it has to be in selecting the dump of the First World Countries. Sad and often overlooked angle of globalisation, I would say. Thanks for reading ! Eagerly waiting for your Comments and Criticism !

8000

If the price drops down to 8000 then I just might think of buying one. Seriously Google, what kind of business is this really, people would rather choose to buy Nexus 7 over this stupid bulky goofy laptop, my current laptop is 3 years old and it has almost twice the CPU power and almost 15 times storage capability, same ram and it runs Chrome so why buy a Chromebook.

Good Laptop But too expensive

I am using this machine for 3 months now. I love it. A few negatives: I got it purchased by my friend who was visiting India. A price tag of $265 (250+taxes) which is around 16000 Indian Rupees is totally worth it. But, please think 100 times before you buy this for 23,000 rupees. Chromebook is just your chrome browser and nothing else. If you are thinking of doing anything more than using a browser, don't buy this. The machine is mostly useless if you don't have the internet. I could not use it to connect to my office network using Citrix. I was not able to configure my printer to scan to the Chromebook.I was able to print using the HP cloud print feature though. Positives: Light weight Good Power backup For people like me who don't use a personal laptop for anything more than just using internet this is just lovely. I installed crouton and was able to get Citrix working. I am still not able to make the scan from my HP Laserjet n1213mf work. I think working with chromebook is a futuristic lifestyle. It is really cool, but the world is not yet prepared to be there. I love it, but I know I was always an exception whatever I did.

Piece of garbage

This is a piece of garbage. No Windows. No Games can be played. No Office, No Winamp. No File manager. Only 16GB memory. Doesnt work without an internet connection. No work can be done on this thing. You can even create simple work files text docs or use photoshop or paint or any other software. You cant install any applications. Please donate money to some NGO instead wasting money on this. Flipkart should introduce the option fo 0 stars for producrts like this.

Waiting for the price to fall.

It was earlier available on Flipkart at a price of 16000. The moment it falls, I'll order this beauty.
