Delhi has once again topped the charts to come up as the most polluted capital in the world. Even otherwise, air pollution continues to be an area of significant concern, and Spanish company Zonair3D's air purifiers promise a solution.
Zonair claims that its advanced air purification systems are capable of delivering zero-particulate medical-grade air, and based on my experience, the device does seem very capable.
The Zonair 3D AIR+ model which I tried looks nothing like most other home air purifiers. Large and heavy, it comes with wheels at the bottom so you can move it around the room easily. Clad in white, it does look elegant.
While the body is plain white on all sides, the top panel is made of black glass. There are touch buttons and a small LED display on top, while a cool blue light surrounds the top panel, which makes it look quite interesting.
The Zonair 3D AIR+ purifiers use a 3-stage filtration system, comprising a pre-filter for large particles. ULPA U15 absolute filter for microscopic particles and a GRYSYSTEM gas filter for reducing gases.

Weighing 30 kgs, the air purifier is quite large, and features a sealed design. This helps keep the fan noise to a minimum but also means that the filters are not user replaceable.
I tried the air purifier in a large room, and measured the AQI at 157 when I started. In about 15 minutes, the AQI was down to 87, and within an hour, down to 27.
Similarly, the 2.5 micron particles were measured at 1028 when the purifier was switched on, and these went down to 439 in 15 minutes. Clearly, the Zonair3D Air+ is super effective. The lack of Wi-Fi, an app, and even a basic remote are issues that should be addressed.
Priced starting Rs 2.25 lac, the Zonair3D Air+ purifiers don't come cheap, and their size and cost would limit the audience to those with medical needs or those who're extremely sensitive to pollution. Worth a closer look.
