Last November, the popular gaming laptop and accessories manufacturer Razer launched the Razer Phone (first impressions) as its first gaming smartphone. The powerful phone seems to have prompted other brands to launch their own gaming-centric smartphones. Now today, Xiaomi has become the first Chinese manufacturer to launch its gaming smartphone. The phone, dubbed the Black Shark, has been launched by a Xiaomi-backed company that also goes by the name Black Shark.

The Black Shark smartphone flaunts a rugged body with X-shaped antenna bands. The phone can be attached to a Bluetooth controller, which promises a better gaming experience. The wireless controller accessory for the flagship comes with an analogue stick. The handset comes with a physical home button, which doubles up as a fingerprint sensor. The phone boasts a liquid-cooling system and offers a breathing LED notification light, which is hidden under the “S” logo at the rear. The flagship also features a dual camera system at the rear, but there are no details regarding its camera sensors as of now.

The Black Shark smartphone is a performance powerhouse, thanks to a 2.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, which is coupled with an Adreno 630 GPU. The smartphone comes in two RAM and storage configurations – 6GB RAM + 64GB storage, and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. The handset offers a 5.99-inch In-Cell display bearing an aspect ratio of 18:9. The screen provides a maximum brightness of 500nits, but there’s no word regarding its display resolution. The Black Shark phone comes with a beefy 4,000mAh battery that supports fast charging.

The handset has been priced at RMB 2,999 (~Rs 31,100) for the 6GB + 64GB model, while its 8GB + 128GB variant is being offered for RMB 3,499 (~Rs 36,400). The optional detachable gaming controller will be available separately for RMB 179 (~Rs 1,800). The phone will go on sale in China starting April 20th.
