My full in-depth review for model A515-51G-5072 having part number of NX.GTCSI.002I bought it from Seller ITTSTORE at a price of Rs. 48979PROS1. Best laptop for the price, no other laptop provides such configuration at this price2. Best suited for programming, picture and video editing, moderate gaming3. It comes with Linus Linpus/Endless OS. I have installed Windows 10 + Linux Mint 18.3 in dual boot with UEFI mode4. The performance of laptop is excellent due to 4 cores and 8 threads. No slowdowns while multi-tasking5. It has a spare 22mm x 80mm M.2 slot for installing SSD, Wi-Fi cards, etc. I have installed 500GB Samsung Evo 860 M.2 SSD6. Boot time using built-in hard disk is around 15-20 seconds and using M.2 SSD is less than 5 seconds !7. Nvidia MX150 can play most games on 720p medium or 1080p low settings with close to 60fps8. Display is very responsive due to TN panel, great for playing FPS games9. Audio via 3.5mm jack is also good, no distortion or noise at higher volume. It will depend on your headphones10. Build quality is good, device doesn't feel cheap at all.CONS1. Colors and viewing angles of the display are average due to TN panel2. Audio via speakers lacks bass and clarity on highest volume3. Battery life on Linux is around 1 hr lesser than Windows 10. You might encounter Wi-Fi issues on Ubuntu 16.04.44. Warranty is void if you install SSD by yourself. Get it installed from authorized Acer service center to retain warranty5. The laptop doesnt come with spare screws for installing M.2 SSD. It is available in Acer service center or any hardware store6. The keyboard keys have backlighting, but there are no ON/OFF indicator lights for CAPS, NUM Lock keys7. There are 2 RAM sticks inside the laptop. One is soldered on the motherboard, other one is removable8. The edges of the laptop are sharp and not rounded, the inside metal surface below the keyboard is a fingerprint magnet9. The laptop backpack looks and feels cheap. Quality is bad for the price of Rs. 1499TIPS:1. Improve display colors on Windows 10: Intel Graphic Settings > Display > Color > Saturation > 202. Improve speaker sound on Windows 10: Control Panel > Sound > Speakers > Configure > Front left and right. Properties > Advanced > 24-bit 48000Hz3. Improve battery life on Linux :Install PowerTop and TLP4. Fix Wi-Fi issues on Ubuntu 16.04.4 : Install ath10K QCA 9377 Wi-Fi drivers from github.com/kvalo or use latest Bionic linux-firmware5. Free SSD installation: Get a service request ticket from Acer customer care and visit Acer service center with the ticket6. Paid SSD installation: Visit Acer service center directly, charges range from Rs. 750 to 10007. Enable CAPS, NUM lock indicators: Windows 10 > Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard > Toggle Keys > Hear a tone. Ubuntu > Install lks indicator from github.com/SergKolo8. Enable gesture support: Boot into BIOS Mode > Main > Touchpad > Change Basic to Advanced and install Touchpad drivers in Windows 10.9. You have 2 options to add SSD: Remove existing 2.5" HDD & add 2.5" SATA SSD OR Keep existing 2.5" HDD & add M.2 SSD10. If you have manually installed Windows 10 on your laptop, let the Windows update install the latest drivers automatically. The drivers on Acer website are outdated and old.BIOS SETTINGS:1. Press F2 continuously after powering on the laptop, do not touch any other setting in the BIOS.2. Main: F12 Boot Menu - Enabled, Touchpad - Advanced3. Security: Set Supervisor Password (Note it down somewhere)4. Boot: Boot Mode - UEFI, Secure Boot - Disabled5. Exit: Save changes > Yes > ExitEXTRA TIPS:1. Use "Rufus" or "UNetBootin" on Windows and "WoeUSB" on Linux to create bootable Windows/Linux pen drives2. Use "DriveDroid" app from Playstore on your rooted Android phone to create bootable Linux ISO images (Ubuntu, Mint, Kali etc.)3. When not gaming, disable Nvidia GPU and enable Intel GPU from Nvidia Settings, laptop will run cooler & have more battery life.4. To get Acer Extended Warranty, message the seller with order invoice or register yourself at www.shopacer.co.in5. Do not buy laptops having Intel 7th Gen CPU and 768p displays, those are outdated now6. If your budget is above 40K, try to buy laptops with atleast Intel 8th Gen i5, 1080p display, will easily last 3-4 yearsHave any further doubts regarding this laptop? Comment below on this review.
