The Acer Aspire S3 is an ultra-compact laptop with its small size at 13-inches and low profile at just 0.5 inches, also being very light at just 1.5 kg is perfect for users who want a machine to be carried around all day without being cumbersome. Although the Aspire S3 might not have high-end configurations considering its price it comes with decent hardware, specially the SSD which gives you fast boot-up time and wake up time. The S3 is not for a power user but for someone who wants mobile computing at a reasonable price and good battery life.

Display and Design

The Acer Aspire S3 is designed to be ultra-portable and it does this quite well with its profile, and at just 0.5 inch thick, it is one of the thinnest laptop in the market today. To keep the weight down to a very light 1.5 Kg, the entire laptop is made from plastic except for the aluminum lid which means it still gives it that premium look. The 13-inch HD LED screen comes with a resolution of 1366x768 resulting in a sharp display with vivid colors. The laptop comes with a standard keyboard even with the limited space availability making it comfortable to type.

Processor and OS

The Aspire S3 comes with a 1.6GHz i5 processor with turbo boost technology up to 2.3GHz along with the 4GB RAM, the hardware handles multi-tasking like a breeze. The laptop comes pre-installed with the Windows 7 Home Premium which is a very reliable and user friendly operating system and easy to understand.

Camera, Storage, Multimedia

The laptop comes integrated with a sharp 1.3MP HD webcam which can be used with the pre-installed Skype VoIP for video chatting. The Aspire S3 comes with a 256GB SSD which might not be enough for a power user as a storage, but the SSD gives the laptop phenomenal transfer speeds, a quick boot time and also helps in keeping the weight down. With the Intel HD 3000 on-board the laptop is capable of smooth HD video playback and handling casual gaming quite easily.

Connectivity and Battery

In terms of connectivity the Aspire S3 comes with options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2xUSB (2.0), 1x USB (3.0), Multi card slot and HDMI port. The 3 cell Li-ion battery keeps the laptop going for up to 5 hours.
