This review is based on usage of this notebook for half a month. But when it comes to computers i know what im talking about. Firstly, Why Dell? Why not HP or Lenovo or Sony or an Apple? Well, as much as i'd have loved to go for an Apple, I just didnt have that kind of budget. As for sony, please go for it, if you like to get ripped off. They charge much more for what they offer just because they are a relatively bigger brand and have a flashy product named "Vaio". Lenovo, although makes excellent products are relatively not very portable and can actually be used for weight training and building muscles. As for HP, i was stuck at HP for a really long time. But finally went for dell because of its awesome after sales services and building such amazing products. Next, Why particularly this notebook? Why not some other model? like that model with the brushed aluminium finished back? The configuration of this model is too good to be true for the asked price. Core i5, 4th gen, upto 2.6Ghz with 6 GB of RAM clocked at 1600 Mhz is amazing. And 750 GB of HDD is an added bonus. Another reason to go for this model was the keyboard layout, with buttons well spaced and quite comfortable to use. I actually went to a local dell showroom and checked it out before buying it here on flipkart. As for not going for the aluminium finished model, i needed a scratch resistance body, something that wouldnt attract many fingerprint marks. So that my sunday mornings are spent "using" it rather than cleaning it. This is all very good on papers but what about real world performance? Now here comes the ace of spades. This notebook is made for the real world. All those numbers on papers they find a way to ooze outta this machine and make a big difference in the real world, making this machine a "true performer". Its blink-your-eyes-and-its-gone fast. Boots windows 8 in around 12 secs. Easily takes care of all the resource hungry softwares such as AutoCAD, Pro Engineer, CATIA, Solidworks, Ansys etc. This 4th generation core i5 processor, which is dual-core dual-thread, is really really good. Beats all expectations. It processes data very accurately without any bugs and does that quiet efficiently. Did you just mention the word efficiently? Hey it reminds of my next question, What kinda battery backup can i get from it? This processor has got a Ph.D in how-to-become-a-real-miser. Its max TDP is just 15 Watts. Which gives me a battery backup of about 5 hrs. And the least that ive got so far is 3.5 hrs hours. All this from a 4 cell battery. You are shitting us! How can one get such a backup from a 4 cell battery? Well, it does depend on many things. Like i mostly keep screen brightness set to minimum and i have installed "all" the drivers and softwares available on dells website for this particular model (yes, it matters, a lot.) And, ive also fiddled with the power management settings in windows in order to squeeze out that extra 1 hr or so. But dont expect to get a 5 hour backup while you are gaming. Gaming? But this machine does not have any dedicated graphics processor. What kinda games can you play on it? Actually, almost any game can run on this notebook at low settings. I've so far played need for speed hot pursuit, call of duty black ops 2, crysis 1, 2, 3, dishonored and GTA 4. The Intel HD 4400 is more than capable of handling mid level gaming. What all accessories does one get with it? If you too have a Ph.D in being stingy and love to get many free accessories then you'll be disappointed. Cause here, you'll only get the notebook and its charger and thats it. Flipkart does provide a bag with it. Which i must say is made from good quality materials and manufactured by targus exclusively for dell. And the only other thing you get is a McAfee antivirus subscription for 15 months. Come on guys, look at the star here not the co-stars. You havent talked about the cons! Are you saying that this notebook is perfect? Well, I dunno about others but for me this machine is quite able in every way. And this maybe because i knew exactly what i wanted from a notebook before setting out to buy one. Since this meets or exceeds all my checkpoints, i find it to be just perfect. My suggestion here to potential buyers is that one should know exactly what they are looking for in a notebook. If you are confused then no matter what you buy you'll never be satisfied. Any last words? This machine is a "utilitarian" product. According to me, this is the best bang for the buck out there. Sure there are some things missing, like you dont get windows out of the box. Or the lack of a dedicated Graphics processor. But at the end of the day they are just specks of dust on your windscreen. If you are not a hardcore-console-quality-graphics-requiring-notebook-boiling gamer then this machine would be fine for you. It'll be able to serve all your needs and still have plenty of juice remaining anything extra. Valar Morghulis!
