Verdict

The Dell Inspiron 15R SE is a Special Edition machine which stands somewhere between the affordable Inspiron series and expensive XPS family. It boasts of power packed performance thanks to the Intel Core i7 CPU, 8GB RAM and 2GB graphics. It also promises a reliable battery, 1MP webcam and 1TB HDD. The beefy outfit is disappointing in this range.

Display and Build

The Dell Inspiron 15R SE features a 15.6-inch HD WLED backlit display with a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels. It is housed in a sturdy aluminium chassis which carries an upmarket feeling thanks to the honeycomb design. However, it has a thickness of 28.16 mm and a weight of 2.7 kg which is extremely hefty especially if compared to the ultrabooks available in the same range.

Processor and OS

Doing the duty on the inside of the Dell Inspiron 15R SE is a powerful 3rd generation Intel Core i7 processor galloping at 2.7GHz and based on HM77 Express chipset. It is aided by an equally strong 8GB DDR3 RAM to make light of anything you throw at it. And to add to the joys of game freaks, the device packs an AMD Radeon HD 7730M graphics processor with 2GB DDR3 memory. It runs on 64 bit Windows 8 OS.

The Dell Inspiron 15R SE flaunts a 1MP webcam positioned above the display and capable of handling high resolution video calls. The 1TB SATA HDD allows the user to stay away from any kind of storage problems.

The DVD RW Drive with dual layer support is capable of playing different kinds of disks. The Skullcandy speakers along with Waves MaxxAudio 4.0 software can keep you entertained on the go.

Battery and Connectivity

The Dell Inspiron 15R SE is furnished with a 6 cell Li-ion battery promising up to 6 hours of backup. Connectivity features include HDMI out, Bluetooth v4.0, 3 USB 2.0 slots, WLAN, 1 USB 3.0 port, VGA port, Ethernet port and multi card reader slot.
