This was shot as a student film. Madonna was unknown at the time, but demanded to be paid for her work. The director required her to sign a release and paid her $100. Later, when Madonna became successful, she tried to ban the movie. The director refused, citing the release she signed.
In the summer of 1979, Madonna penned a three-page letter to director Stephen Jon Lewicki in response to a newspaper ad seeking a female to play the lead in the film. When photostats of the letter surfaced for public viewing decades later, it struck many as bizarre that at 21 Madonna was already lying about her age, listing her year of birth as 1959 - a year after her actual birthday in 1958 - but in context this makes sense because Lewicki had advertised for a female between 18 and 20.
Film debut of Madonna.
"Bruna: Everyone brags about making changes in their lives. But I know too well. That you realize that you want to do something, and to actually get there.. it's 2 different things. You can make the effort, you can have the desire but it's not enough. You need something more."
