Trivia

Director John Sturges hired several hundred Papago Native Americans to play Indians in this film.

Richard Widmark appears to be riding Pie, James Stewart's favorite horse in 17 films.

For some unknown reason, Frank Chase (the stagecoach shotgun rider) gets billing, but the better-known Glenn Strange (stagecoach driver) does not, even though they have the same amount of screen time.

John McIntire plays Richard Widmark's father, even though McIntire is only 7 years older than Widmark.
