The film was intended to be one long continuous take. This was however reduced to twelve long takes, a bit like Alfred Hitchcock's Rope (1948) which had ten.
Some story elements were derived from prison stories that lead actor Richard Green had heard during his three sentences in jail.
When shooting was completed one Friday evening, the director Kriv Stenders had a rough cut of the film by the time he attended the wrap party later that Friday night.
According to the Australian DVD booklet for the film, when casting was being conducted, lead actor Richard Green "was in Long Bay Prison in New South Wales".
The film has one filming location and a cast of six.
