Walter Emmanuel Jones, who stars as Boomer, is best known for his role as Zack Taylor/The Black Power Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Jones is the second Mighty Morphin actor to be associated with a Disney Channel film; the other is Amy Jo Johnson who played Kimberly on the series and played in the title role in the movie Susie Q.
The film is loosely-based on the novel "Hans Brinker, or The Silver Skates" by Mary Mapes Dodge.
Sam Horrigan and Erik Von Detten previously worked together on the Disney TV remake of "Escape to Witch Mountain" 3 years earlier.
