BRO Review

Happy Journey, a Marathi film directed by Sachin Kundalkar, is a moving story of a guy who must confront his past and the loss of his sister. The Malayalam remake, Koode by Anjali Menon, was inspired by the touching and understated original, although with a darker tone. With #Bro, Karthik Thupurani now accomplishes the same for Telugu, although his movie walks a fine line between art-house and mainstream. Does the film benefit from this treatment? Madhav (Naveen Chandra) has spent his entire life apart from his family. At the age of fifteen, he is sent away to Dubai to work in construction and provide a good income for the family after learning that his little sister Subhadra or Subbu (Avika Gor) has cystic fibrosis. The kid, who once dreamed of taking care of his sister and playing professional football, is now compelled to lead a solitary existence and harbours resentment at having to carry such a big weight at such a young age. The loss of his hard-earned sister is the only thing that will bring him back home. Even though he no longer has the duty he once did, the idea that he would never have enough time to spend with Subbu actually plagues him. A moving story about a guy finding his way back to his original self then begins. The feel-good film #Bro vacillates between being lighthearted and perhaps theatrical. But if ever there was a movie that serves as a reminder to prioritise family and learn to accept their flaws, this is it. It won't leave you.
