To achieve the desirable perky buttocks that baseball players are known to have, Austin Butler worked with celebrity trainer Beth Lewis and his fitness routine included "a ton of hip thrusters." Since Butler's character, Hank, is a baseball star turned bartender, Darren Aronofsky also wanted him to look like he had a "drinking problem," so Butler ate a lot of pizza and drank a lot of beer so he wouldn't appear too toned. Butler revealed that he weighed 150 pounds when he started training with Lewis, and weighed 185 six months later. "I've got a whole section of Celine pants that I just can't even wear anymore," he admitted. His strict workout with Lewis also included balancing on a BOSU ball and doing one-arm kettlebell moves. Butler also committed to using alcohol to help with his body transformation despite not being a big drinker in real life. "Drinking has never been my thing," he said. "I don't like the way it makes me feel."
