TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Four men involved in the making of "Cornered" were later blacklisted for Communist activities: producer Adrian Scott, director Edward Dmytryk, and actors Morris Carnovsky and Luther Adler.

The second and last collaboration between Dick Powell and director Edward Dmytryk. Along with Murder, My Sweet (1944), these films transformed Powell's image from that of a light song-and-dance man into a serious "tough guy" actor.

"Cornered" was a solid success for RKO, clearing a profit of $413,000.

Luther Adler is given a special solo credit card at the film's conclusion.

Just before Laurence Gerard is struck a second time with a pistol, Luther Adler's character orders the gun thug, saying "Casse lui la gueule!" meaning "Beat him up!"

Popular Dialogues

"Melchior Incza: Senor, I suspect that you were a very fine flyer and before that perhaps a promising shoe salesman, but you're a gross amateur at intrigue. You cannot expect to catch a trout by shouting at it from the riverbank proclaiming that you're a great fisherman. You need a hook with feathers on it."

"Manuel Satana: If you continue to follow Madame Jarnac now, the consequeces may be serious. Laurence Gerard: That's what I had in mind, Manuel Satana: Senor, I must warn you, I must command you - do not follow Madame Jarnac! Laurence Gerard: [Flippantly] I'll tell you what. I thought it over and decided not to pay any attention to you."
